Honorary representations
The honorary consulates support the Swiss representations in safeguarding Switzerland’s interests and in emergencies involving Swiss citizens abroad. In an emergency the representation responsible (embassy or consulate-general) must be contacted immediately.
Please note that honorary representations do not have consular authority and therefore can not issue visas and Swiss passports nor act as a notary or handle civil status events.
Responsibilities
The Consulate General of Switzerland in Rio de Janeiro provides consular services and visa support for people resident in the States of Acre, Alagoas, Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Federal District, Espirito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rondônia, Roraima, Sergipe and Tocantins.
The Consulate General of Switzerland in São Paulo provides consular services and visa support for people resident in the States of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo.
